Hi I’m Shrutika! The picture above depicts the happiness that food, dining experiences and shared meals brings me so I forced myself to learn to cook, bake and throw together meals so I can not only enjoy food outside, but also at home! Speaking of home, the home I grew up in (biased, obviously), had the best food ever! With an Indian heritage but growing up in Singapore and Thailand with Parents who had travelled and lived all around the world, every day was a different cuisine. Thai, Indian, Italian, Japanese, Indonesian, Mexican, French and many more dishes from around the world were brought into my life from an early age. Then I moved away for School then Work and the biggest cause of ever being homesick came from missing my home food. So there was only one solution, get in the kitchen — try, try again, keep trying and now I still can’t replicate exactly a single dish from home but I can take the inspirations and make my own versions that make me, my stomach and my heart very happy!
Biggest influences to create this came from the incredible other food blogs out there (Check out my inspirations page which should be up shortly) that I’ve wasted so much time stalking and from my personal Instagram followers and friends who have pushed me to finally create my own space to share my meals.
The Sweet Skillet…. why that name? I was gifted a 12-Inch Cast Iron Skillet by a very special ‘twin’ in my life for graduation and had no idea that I could use it to not only make great meals but increddiiiiible desserts! Pies, Giant Cookies, Dutch Pancakes and obviously great savoury dishes too. I never grew up around Cast Iron pans – more so Woks which are special in their own way! So that’s why this is The Sweet Skillet! Not everything will be sweet, but will be made with the sweetest intentions of fulfilling your food cravings, as I fulfill mine!
I’m new to this whole blogging thing so the site and everything is a work in progress so I ask for some time as I figure it all out!
Enjoy : )
